ATTACK OF THE WORDS: “Rinse and Repeat”

I used to really hate getting spam comments on my blogs. At first, I thought that there were actual humans posting each of those, and on occasion I would let one through and reply back to it. Of course, there was never a response after that, because nobody saw it, because those spam comments aren’t made by humans. They’re made by bots on a massive scale.
At one point, I was even so fed up with all the spam getting past Akismet and spam filters that I disabled comments for awhile. That gave me some space to let my blood pressure get back to normal, so I’m glad I did it. It also eventually helped me to get more perspective on the whole spam comment/marketing thing.
Nowadays, I allow comments again, with a time limit, but when spammy stuff gets through it doesn’t bother me. Sure, some of it is malicious — with people trying to scam everyone — but usually it’s just some legit small business trying to get some traction so they hire an SEO company to boost their rankings and VOILA! Spam on my blog.
