What’s Up In 2017

Hey everyone, so we’re just about three weeks into 2017. I hope things are going well for you. It’s been a while since I wrote an actual blog post, and I feel like it’s time to start getting back into that, even if it’s just a short and sweet 300 words. I feel like I should maybe do some resolutions or something, but nah…

What have I been up to?

Well, last year I finally followed through on trying to become a syndicated newspaper cartoonist. It didn’t happen, but after a lifetime of thinking and wishing and procrastinating, I’m glad I finally drew up some comics and sent them in to King Syndicate.

You gotta try, right?

So, last year I drew a couple dozen Jimmy Did It comic strips and submitted them in October. It’s been more than three months with no response, so I think it’s safe to say they weren’t interested.

Freelance Writing

After that, I shifted back toward freelance writing again for some content mills like Textbroker and ContentRunner.

Last summer I made a few hundred bucks doing that, then shifted to comics for a few months, then back to writing. I made a few hundred more from October to December, and so far here in January I’ve earned about $130.

Problem is, I’m on the edge of burnout again, so I’m considering whether to keep trying to push through that or to just take a break for a bit and focus on something else. I haven’t decided, but I need money ASAP, so I’ll probably keep trying to push through.

Getting In Shape

I also completely stopped going to the gym for the past several months, so I need to get back into that. Well, actually I did go a few days ago, and I was hoping that would turn into a daily thing again…but that also didn’t happen. Blaaaahhhh…

Okay, that’s basically it.

Sorry this post is so boring.

When did blogging get so hard?

  1. Chris, you are so talented. I just know that something big is waiting for you. You are a talented artist. An insightful writer and you have a fantastic imagination. That is a winning combination. Whether this be a full time or part time endever for you “don’t waste the talent that God has blessed you with.”

    1. Chris, I agree with “Mom.” You are very talented and I don’t think you should waste the talent God gave you either. Maybe you can try another company besides King? Or maybe switch back and forth between comics and writing…one month do one and one month do the other, for awhile anyway. That way when you are reaching burnout with the writing you know you will be switching to the comics soon.

  2. Hey Chris!

I’m with ‘Mom’ and Karen – you are a very talented artist. Maybe there’s another medium or market out there for your cartooning.

Writing is tough for me too. Every couple of months or so, I think it would be a good idea to do some freelance writing to earn some extra money, but then I always think that I could be writing for my own websites rather than someone else’s. Then I do neither.

    Best wishes to you.
