This Textbroker Writing Sample Got a 4-Star Rating (with HTML)

In August of 2021, I signed up to write at Textbroker.com (again*) by creating a new author account. They require a writing sample for new freelance writers who join the site. And they give you a choice of a few different topics to write about. I chose to write a review of one of my favorite restaurants.

This is the writing sample I submitted.

I received a 4-star rating from Textbroker’s editors.

When you write your sample, you may receive different instructions. But my sample instructions required the following:

  • Write 200-300 words
  • Use 3rd person in the body (use “they, them, it” – do NOT use “I, we, our, my, you, your”)
  • Write a conclusion with a call-to-action (CTA) written in 2nd person (use “you/your”)
  • HTML tags: H1 (title), H2 (subtitle), italics, bold

Jinya Ramen Bar: A Great Choice for Vegans in Las Vegas

Established in Tokyo in 2000, Jinya later came to the U.S. and eventually set up shop in Las Vegas in 2017. Over the years, Jinya has racked up several restaurant industry awards, including LA Weekly’s 10 Best Vegan Finds in Los Angeles in 2017.

While Jinya isn’t a purely vegan restaurant, there’s no need to interrogate the server or figure out a way to turn something on the menu into a vegan-friendly meal. The menu already has several vegan rice dishes, noodle soups and appetizers.

Enter: The Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen

Judging by the photos and reviews on Yelp!, one of Jinya’s top sellers for both vegans and non-vegans alike is the spicy creamy vegan ramen. After taking the first bite, it’s no wonder why this delectable noodle soup is so popular. The long handmade noodles are thick and curly with a slightly chewy texture that is often missing from similar options at Jinya’s competitors. According to Jinya’s website, the creamy vegan broth is simmered for over 20 hours to bring out all the flavors and aromas. This creamy noodle soup is then topped with a generous portion of silken tofu, onion, kikurage, green onion, garlic chips, crispy onion, garlic oil, chili oil and sesame seeds.

If you’re looking for authentic vegan Japanese ramen in Las Vegas, be sure to stop by Jinya Ramen Bar on Flamingo for a delightful dining experience.

Don’t stress about HTML

Very few clients and teams on Textbroker require you to know a lot of HTML coding, but you will eventually need to learn some basics. These include headings/subheadings, bold and italics.

I had never even heard of HTML when I started writing for Textbroker in 2012, so I googled it and learned a little at a time. I wrote 800+ articles for clients on Textbroker over the past nine years knowing nothing but these three tags above.

So don’t freak out about HTML.

You pick it up pretty quickly.

Plus, the textbox/editor on Textbroker has buttons on the taskbar so that you can just highlight text and convert it to hyperlinks, bold, italics, H2 subheadings, etc. So you might not really need to know much HTML when you sign up. Still, for the sample, you should at least know how to do the tags for H1, H2, italics and bold (as I’ve included in my sample).

Okay, so if you’re interested in signing up for Textbroker to make some money writing articles as a 4-star author, I hope that this is helpful.

ALSO: check these 11 Textbroker writing sample tips over on WriterSanctuary. The author started out as a 3-star writer on Textbroker before being promoted to 4-stars. And he’s written over 5,000 articles for clients over there. So he knows his stuff.

Okay. Good luck. – Chris
