Day 43: Friday 02/12/2021

Stats

  • 2 x 25 lateral raises using soup cans lol

Diet

  • Breakfast: salmon + rice
  • Lunch: tortilla chips + hummus
  • Dinner: lots of mochiko chicken
  • Snacks: 0
  • Drinks: 3 water + 3 Coke + 6 Fireball shots

Summary

Is today over yet?

Can it just be over please?

At least I only ate 3 MEALS + 0 SNACKS !!!

I still ate a lot of calories tho.

I also went for a walk and did a couple quick warmup sets for shoulders – better than nothing.

But other than that, I mostly just laid around today – partly due to pain in my back and shoulder (see yesterday) and partly due to i-dont-give-a-fuck-even-tho-i-really-do.

At least my lower back pain and shoulder pain from yesterday is mostly gone now (Friday night). So maybe tomorrow will be more normal (normal in a GOOD way, that is).

Day 44: Saturday 02/13/2021

  • Breakfast: oatmeal + pb powder + raisins
  • Lunch: tripe stew + 3 potatoes
  • Dinner: tripe stew + rice + mochiko chicken
  • NIGHT BINGE: crackers + chips + cookies + rice crisps + pastry
  • Drinks: 2 water + 

Summary

Unfortunately, this day was fairly normal, but not in a good way.

It was another stressful, sh*tty day filled with eating and not being productive.

Also, I didn’t record my meals until the following night, and I forgot some of the stuff I ate and drank. But it was a lot.

Day 45: Sunday 02/14/2021

Stats

  • Weight: 318 lbs
  • Steps: 4,032

Cardio

  • 22 minute walk

Workout (using 25-lb dumbbells)

  • Shoulder press 1 x 10
  • Hammer curl 1 x 10
  • Incline bench press 1 x 10
  • Bent over row 1 x 20

Diet

  • Breakfast: Honey Nut Cheerios + almond milk
  • Lunch: bacon chicken ranch quesadilla + chips and salsa + molten lava cake w/ ice cream
  • Dinner: tripe stew + rice + 1 bite ice cream
  • Snacks: 0
  • Drinks: 5 water + 3 Diet Coke + 1 coffee

Summary

FINALLY, today was a good day – at least in terms of my weight loss journey.

Despite all that food I ate yesterday, I did manage to come in a pound lighter this morning.

I wasn’t surprised tho.

My food intake – especially meat – spiked the last few days. And when that happens, my weight seems to spike and then drop suddenly later on. Probably due to those heavier foods taking longer to digest and poop out.

I did have a high-calorie lunch at Chili’s, tho. But I didn’t snack between meals or after dinner. So overall, today was good. As long as I don’t binge later on tonight after writing this.

–> 3 MEALS + 0 SNACKS !!! 🙂

I also got in a modest little walk today.

And I might even grab the dumbbells and knock out a set or two later on tonight.

We’ll see.

So yeah…good day.

Day 46: Monday 02/15/2021

Stats

Workout: 1x circuit using 25-lb dumbbells for 10 reps

  3. Bent- over row
  4. Shoulder press

  • Breakfast: ½ cup oatmeal + 2T pb powder + banana
  • Lunch: hamburger Happy Meal
  • Dinner: chili + rice
  • DINNER #2: collard greens + rice
  • Snacks: 12 tortilla chips + hummus
  • Drinks: 4 water + 2 coffee + 1 Diet Coke + 1 Fireball Coke

Summary

Actually had a decent day, at least on the emotional side.

My weight came down a little (though not as much as I had hoped).

And even though I did eat “dinner #2” along with a snack between lunch and dinner, I didn’t do one of those mindless zombie eating sprees. I was actually hungry for a snack a couple hours before my regular dinner time, so I ate some chips and hummus.

And then I consciously wanted to have a small bowl of my wife’s collard greens, so I scooped out a little bowl and ate it.

And then I was done.

No downward spiral.

No stuffing everything in sight into my face and then feeling depressed and angry at myself afterward.

I just wanted a little something more. I ate it. And then I was done.

So even though I was technically off my diet, I’m okay with this. It’s not ideal, but it’s still progress.

PS – that damn Fireball stuff is addicting 🙂

Day 47: Tuesday 02/16/2021

  • Breakfast: 1 can split pea soup + white rice
  • Lunch: 1 chicken empanada + plantains + yuca fries + rice + 1 roll
  • Dinner: 1 can split pea soup + white rice
  • Snacks: 3 large chocolate-dipped strawberries
  • Drinks: 6 water + 1 Coke

Summary

Well, I didn’t walk or work out today.

BUT…I did cheat on my diet lol. So there’s that.

Actually, it wasn’t a huge cheat. Our son got us chocolate-dipped strawberries for our anniversary, so I indulged in a few of those. They were amazing.

Other than that, I didn’t do that bad. Drank plenty of water too.

Day 48: Wednesday 02/17/2021

Stats

Workout (25-lb dumbbells)

  • DB incline bench press 5 x 10

Diet

  • Breakfast: 1 can split pea soup + rice
  • Lunch: egg/veggie fried rice
  • Dinner: 2 bowls of collard greens w/ ham + rice
  • Snacks: 1 chocolate-dipped strawberry
  • Drinks: 5 water + 1 coffee

Summary

Well, I ALMOST stuck to my diet today. And I had a DOUBLE-SIZED dinner. But that’s okay. Overall it went well.

I also did some light dumbbell work for chest/shoulders, so that makes me happy. Feels good to be doing that again.

Day 49: Thursday 02/18/2021 (PIZZA NIGHT)

  • DB row 3 x 20

Diet

  • Breakfast: ½ cup oatmeal + pb powder + raisins
  • Lunch: 2 cucumber sandwiches + 15 onion ring chips
  • LUNCH #2: 4 slices veggie pizza + a few bites kahlua, poke and rice
  • Dinner: 2 slices pizza
  • Snacks: 
  • Drinks: 5 water + 2 coffee + 1 Coke

Summary

Pizza Night was in full effect, and it even came early.

We made a run to Sam’s Club this afternoon, so it was my civic duty to get a pizza for tonight. Lucky for me nobody else in the house gets excited about Sam’s Club pizza. I ate almost half of it sitting in the car while my wife finished running errands.

Then I ate some more several hours later, when I started my late-night blogging spree.

Yep.

That’s gonna set me back.

Okay, well I’m not thrilled that I gained back three pounds this week.

Actually, when I look at my daily weigh-ins, it’s no surprise. My weight started trending back up last week. But after spiking up to 319 lbs on Saturday, I was able to gradually bring it back down to 316 lbs for this week’s final weigh-in.

I can live with that.

At least I stayed below 320.

Anyway, it’s been heading back down steadily the past few days, so I think I’ll be right back on track next week.

Maybe I’ll even get below 313 lbs by next Thursday..

Who knows.

While the scale didn’t give me good news this week, looking back at my meals, I’m actually pretty happy about it.

I only stuck to my diet rule (3 MEALS + 0 SNACKS) two days out of seven, but there were a couple days where I only went off track by 100-300 calories (those days where I ate one or three chocolate dipped strawberries outside of meal times).

I also went for a walk a few times, picked up extra steps running errands all week and did some quick dumbbell workouts this week.

So I’m sure those little bits of exercise at least helped minimize the damage from my late-night binges and chocolate-dipped strawberry snacks.

Yeah.

I’m okay with this.

Overall I feel good about this week.

So now we just keep moving forward.

  1. I am looking at your weight loss chart Chris and seeing a collective big drop since November. That is awesome. The fluctuations will occur but this is literally life. Like, everything is fluctuations but keeping a long term approach in mind smooths out our journey.

      While I’ve been tracking daily and weekly weigh-ins for months, I’m glad I finally started drawing it out visually like this.
      It’s so easy to get caught up in the emotional ups and downs that come with daily weight fluctuations. It often felt like I was just spinning my wheels but getting nowhere.
      But when I look back at my numbers, especially when I see it in graphic form, it shows me that I’m doing just fine.
      It’s crazy how the day-to-day of life can mess with your mind and make you feel like you’re failing – when you’re actually making good progress. Just goes to show how sometimes our emotions can deceive us.
