Summary

Despite yesterday’s night binge, I actually came in one pound lighter this morning.

Also, I feel like I’m finally breaking out of that rut I was in for the past week.

Well, I’m officially right back where I was at the end of 2020 (315 lbs).

Yay me.

But that’s actually a good thing. If I hadn’t been doing all this weight loss stuff over the last couple months (stretching back into November), I’d probably be 5 lbs heavier than if I had done nothing different at all – based on how I was gaining weight throughout 2020.

So…315 lbs versus…335 lbs?

I’ll take 315 lbs.

That’s a win right there.

Day 18: Monday 01/18/2021

  • Lunch: hamburger stew + white rice
  • Dinner: hamburger stew + white rice + 5 cookies
  • BINGE: 1 slice bread + ½ bag mochi peanut balls + guava ribs + pbj sandwich
  • Drinks: 5 water + 1 coffee + 1 diet root beer

Summary

Did a little exercise today. Went for a short walk around the apartment complex this morning. And then did a few light sets of dumbbell work. It was basically just warmup weights, but it felt good. I haven’t lifted a dumbbell in weeks due to a nagging forearm tendon injury that won’t go away.

I got a little carried away with dinner. I’d estimate that I ended up eating an extra 800 calories by eating a large portion of hamburger stew and then by adding dessert. But still, I stuck to my main rule, and I think tomorrow’s weigh in will be fine.

UPDATE: nope. I went back later at night and sampled just about everything in sight. And the way our kitchen is always set up, we have A LOT of food in sight at all times.

Day 19: Tuesday 01/19/2021

Summary

Dude, I ate a lot of food today, including a trip to Popeye’s and a Chinese restaurant.

Stress eating, fo sho. I totally just threw in the towel today – didn’t even fight it.

I am so ready for this week to be over already.

Just gotta hang in there for a couple more days. Hopefully I can get my mind focused back on my normal daily things again real soon.

Summary

I got a couple huge bags of baked goods on clearance at the grocery store yesterday morning. And the kids also came home from Sam’s Club with two big loaves of sandwich bread. So I’m eating various forms of bread like a maniac the last couple days.

And yes, salad sandwiches are EXACTLY what they sound like. One had blue cheese. The other had ranch.

Aside from the bread orgy, life is getting back to normal.

Mostly.

I might even get some blogging done today.

UPDATE: Well, I got zero blogging done. BUT…I did blow my diet again by eating a whole extra meal after dinner.

Summary

Shit, man. Today was more of the same stuff I’ve been experiencing the past couple weeks. I only stuck to my diet two days this whole week. Frustrating.

I suppose it could be worse. I TECHNICALLY lost four pounds from last week’s weigh-in til today. But I’m still one pound OVER my starting point lol.

I’m three weeks into 2021, and I’m basically just maintaining my weight. Not steadily, but overall. Like, my weight is fluctuating dramatically between 315 to 320, with occasionally highs above 320 and occasional lows below 315. But overall, I’m just not moving the needle.

It’s like two steps forward and two steps back. I think next month I’ll make a little graph of my daily weigh-ins for January so you can see exactly what I’m referring to.

I really need to stick to my main diet rule: NO SNACKING!

When I do that, the weight comes off easily.

And without exception (no wait…except for those couple nights I stayed up til like 2am or 3am) – ALMOST without exception, my “binges” and “cheats” have nothing to do with physical hunger.

It’s emotional.

It’s stressful.

It’s habitual.

It’s automatic.

It’s frustrating.

It’s just a matter of building self-discipline and BECOMING THE PERSON who sticks to the rule. And that, unfortunately, takes time and practice.

DietBet Deadline Coming Up…

  • Starting weight 01/01: 316 lbs
  • Goal weight to win 01/28: 303 lbs
  • Current weight 01/21: 316 lbs

My first DietBet games are ending next Thursday.

I was totally confident last month that I’d have no problem hitting my goal weight and winning all of those games by January 28. That was based on how I was doing in December with my weight loss. And at first, January started out fine.

But things got wonky about a week into January, and my weight has been fluctuating up and down ever since. It’s been frustrating, to say the least.

I weighed 316-317 for the initial weigh-ins on January 1st and needed to get down to 303-304 to win the games in January (FYI: there were slight variations for each of the three weigh-ins).  But with my current weight being 316 (right back where I started), I need to lose about 12-13 lbs in just one week to win.

That’s not impossible, but I’ve never even come close to that in the past.

I have a bad feeling about this…
