I’m building 42 daily habits at the same time and tracking my progress like it’s a video game. Every day that I complete a habit – that’s one point.

I made a couple changes since last week.

Originally, I had 40 habits. One of those habits was “dishes”, which I would do once a day. But I decided to break that up into three separate habits, washing dishes after each meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

So now there are 42 habits.

I also moved “Vacuum” from my night routine to my home care routine in the morning. It makes more sense that way.

These are the number of times I performed each habit this week. So the score for each habit is out of 7 points possible.

SUMMARY of WEEK 2

Okay, so after two weeks of tracking my daily habits, I already know where I want to focus next.

Here I am, a grown-ass man, and I’m not even brushing my teeth twice every day (or showering every day…yEEEsh).

That’s embarrassing.

And gross.

But it’s easy to correct.

I knew I was skipping it here and there, but this is ridiculous.

How long has it been this way? Man, I don’t even want to think about it.

I used to brush twice a day (at least I think I did). But I know that in recent…um…weeks?

Recent…months? Idk

RECENTLY, I noticed that I would skip brushing in the morning, telling myself that I should brush AFTER breakfast instead of BEFORE breakfast. No sense brushing and then getting my teeth dirty immediately afterwards. Better to brush after eating instead of before.

Sounded logical.

But by the time I’d finish eating breakfast, I would often forget all about brushing until that evening.

I guess.

Idk

Damn, this is embarrassing.

Good thing my wife doesn’t read my blog haha.

Ssshhh…don’t tell.

It’ll be our little secret.

Early Morning Routine Is Improving

Anyway, it’s hard to compare this week to last week due to the fact that I don’t have data for last Monday (accidentally deleted it). But even without that info, I can see that I’ve improved my early morning routine.

Last week, when I only did my morning brushing ONE DAY out of seven, I realized how crappy my hygiene was. So I immediately decided to work at brushing my teeth in the morning.

And since brushing can easily lead into flossing and mouthwash, that’s a nice little habit chain right there. Easy way to scoop up three points without even thinking about it.

Okay, so anyway.

The morning routine is improving a little – but still needs work.

I also noticed that I did 24 more habits this week than last week.

So even after adjusting for the missing data from last Monday, that’s still a decent improvement across the board since last week.

Conclusion

So that’s it for Week 2.

It’s pretty sad how far I’ve slid over the years. But I’m glad I started tracking these things. I never realized how pathetic I’ve become lol.

Anyway, I’m happy with the progress.

Hopefully I’ll continue to boost those scores next week.

  1. I dig this idea Chris. Makes sense to me because it feels like a game, adding points to change your daily habits. Smart. Any time we take the charge out of freeing but uncomfortable experiences we are more likely to change permanently.
