Goals Update From Last Week
So last week Monday I came up with five goals to work on during the week. Here’s how it went.
1. Walk 10,000 steps in a day – FAILED
After publishing that goals blog post on Monday morning, I thought that it would be pretty cool if I could knock out all five goals that very same day.
So after accomplishing Goal #2 below, I came home and went for a walk.
I figured it would take me about two hours to walk 10,000 steps in one shot, I’ve done that much in a day, lots of times. But it’s been a while since I did it all in one walking session.
Still, I thought, hey, maybe I can do 10,000 steps today.
I tried walking laps around our apartment complex, but I was spent after just two laps. I was breathing a little hard, but I could have continued. That wasn’t the problem.
The real problem was that that the soles of my feet were killing me. I probably have a teeny tiny bit of nerve damage there from last summer.
Not gonna go into it right now.
Anyway, that’s when I realized that I would have to break up those 10,000 steps throughout the day.
My feet continued to bother me for several days after Monday’s walk, so I skipped walking as much as possible until the weekend. I was gonna give it one more shot, but it ended up being the same story as Monday.
So this goal isn’t going to work out. Long walks are not happening for me right now.
2. Try the new “Plant Power” drivethru – ACHIEVED
This guy was obviously the easiest goal on the list. I mean, how hard is it to GO EAT FAST FOOD? I achieved it just a few hours after publishing last week’s blog post.
Plant Power is a new fast food restaurant that serves all plant-based fast food – burgers and fries, chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches, breakfast croissant sandwiches – stuff like that. But again, every single item on the menu is 100% plant-based food – no meat, no eggs, no dairy.
So on Monday I had a cheeseburger with grilled onions, fries and a cola. It was pretty good fast food at a pretty decent price. It looks like they aim to be the McDonald’s of vegan fast food, and I think they’re off to a great start.
I won’t go into detail right now, since I plan on writing up a full restaurant review here on my blog soon. But for what it was, I was impressed.
This was my first time trying this place, and I’ll have to eat there again real soon.
(Actually, I ended up going back the next day too lol.)
Anyway, if you’re interested, watch for the full review, probably sometime next month.
3. Meal Prep – FAILED
The plan was to wash my microwavable meal containers and fill them with food.
I’ve done it lots of times. All I had to do was make a small pot of brown rice, add in some frozen vegetables, pour some sauce on top (teriyaki, pad thai, bbq, whatever) and BAM – four healthy, low-calorie meals, ready to go.
But I’ve been feeling stressed all week. And with my wife starting her new job this week, I think that added to it. It also kept me out of the house all day for much of the week.
Anyway, next week will be different.
4. Write 5,000 words in a day – FAILED
After writing that goals post last Monday, I proceeded to write ZERO words for the next several days in a row.
Well, technically I started a few articles for Textbroker throughout the week, but I didn’t finish any of them by their deadlines. So they all went back to the writer pool.
I spent a lot of hours on my laptop last week but had nothing to show for it.
Luckily, on Sunday I pulled out of that nosedive and at least got some blogging done. But I only managed 2,333 words for that day. Combined with the 228-word blog post on Monday equals 2,561 words.
So not even halfway there.
5. Do a new podcast episode – ACHIEVED
I did this one on Monday too.
It’s been FOREVER since I uploaded a new podcast episode (only had two prior to this one), but I’m REALLY GLAD that I put this down as a goal last week.
It didn’t take long at all.
I just picked an old blog post, tweaked the text a little and then recorded an audio version of it in one shot.
I was tempted to redo it because I left out a couple things I wanted to say. But maybe it’s good that I didn’t overthink it. I just put it up as is and moved on.
Once I got past the technical speed bumps, it only took me like 10 minutes to record, edit and upload to Anchor.
I think I spent more time fiddling with microphones and headsets and apps to figure out a way to record on my iPhone using my bluetooth headset than I spent actually making the podcast.
- My phone’s built-in mic has issues and picks up a lot of background noise and static.
- And the lightning jack doesn’t work good either, so my wired lapel mic and wired headset are both useless there.
- And most video apps don’t record audio from bluetooth mics.
But I finally figured out a workaround that allowed me to record audio using my bluetooth headset. The rest was easy after that.
I plan on doing podcast versions of most of my blog posts now, so expect to see more podcast episodes popping up on Anchor, Spotify, Apple Podcast and a few other platforms soon.
You can click on the PODCAST tab at the top of my blog to see all my podcast episodes and how to listen to them. If you’re already using any of those apps on your phone, go subscribe to my podcast 🙂
I got 2/5
Well, that’s how my week went. I guess two out of five isn’t so bad. It could have been worse. I’ve had worse weeks, so I’ll take it.
Anyway, I hope you all had a good week.
What About Next Week?
So now there’s only one full week left in 2021.
For next week, I think I’ll just lower my standards. That should do the trick 🙂
- Go for a walk at least once
- Try the new “Plant Power” fast food place again
- Meal prep for the week
- Write 2,600 words for the week
- Record and upload one podcast
How about you?
Will you accomplish more next week than you did this week?
